Today, any field including, legal, finance, biotech, infotech, nanotech., energy, healthcare, etc. is wide open to revolutionary transformational developments.
Education, however, is a field that is yet to see a significant transformation and that controls all the above areas along with the technology of tomorrow, that in turn can change the education, for better.
With the development and technical advancement in all the sectors today, a set of jobs and market requirements are also changing rapidly.
According to research, automation by technology will take up all the jobs that require repetitive tasks. Today, to cope up with the future of work, we need talent with all the right and relevant skills.
Most big scale companies today are embracing the remote workers, including the powerhouses like Apple, Dell, Intuit and IBM. The ability to work with on-site and remote teams will even become more crucial in the years ahead.
To stay relevant and at the top of the game, it’s imperative to be adaptable with the rapid and radical change with the technology.

John Biggs, the trailblazer of constructive of alignment, suggests that “Teaching is then designed to engage students in learning activities that optimise their chances of achieving.”
Education has taken considerable strides in the last 200 years, since the industrial revolution.
Primitively, people used to get educated to learn specific skills like maths, language, and science, to be able to work in industries, to survive.
The situation is very different today. There are many more new subjects in school like arts and political science and history and economics, and sure thing, these skills (or so to say subjects) can help people to get certain jobs, but the philosophy of education hasn’t changed much.
Most education institutions are still using the same methodology and techniques to teach our children, preparing them to become industrial workers.
Technology and Education
Despite the technological leaps, teachers and their teaching styles have always remained a constant in education.
Institutes have started employing LMS, like Moodle, Canvas, and blackboard, etc to facilitate learning. Akshaya Singhal’s article gives some very interesting insights about the problems with current LMS systems.
Online learning platforms like Byju’s, Coursera, etc. give students the freedom and opportunity to learn whatever, whenever, and wherever they want. These platforms with quality content and great assessment tools, undoubtedly are great for learning new skills.
But does easy access to learning material mean good learning?
Human beings are social animals. We are bound to survive in communities, where we can connect with others on a personal level, based on their location and shared interests.
A child learns not only from the text that he has been taught in the class but also from his family, his classmates and his teachers. He learns from the world that surrounds him. The true meaning of learning comes when we learn together. It’s a collective and interactive affair.
Student-teacher interaction has always been an integral part of education and will always be. Just replacing it with technology may not always be effective.
It is a dire need for today to find out a solution that can help students learn and teachers teach using technology, without losing our creative intelligence and human connection.
A congruous proportion of technology and human interaction is required for the perfect learning setting. Therefore, we need our teachers to contribute more to technology, especially in the education industry.
Teacher and Future of Technology
When it comes to education, the teacher always holds the key to the future. The future of us, the future of technology.
Technology, if channelized properly, in the field of education can bring about positive changes that education desperately needs. In turn, knowledge, when directed appropriately, will give rise to a sustainable and healthy future where technology can’t take over our creative intelligence.
Teachers, with their experience and interaction with the students, can bring those changes, and give direction to a sustainable future.
The problem today, however, is the lack of awareness and adaptiveness for technology in teachers. The current technology that is supposed to enhance the education system is flawed by design.
These technologies, made by big corporations do not solve the problems teacher and students face and are either too complicated to use for a not very tech savvy teacher or aimed to replace teachers completely.
To come up with a solution that works, it’s vital to involve teachers in the picture, because they are the ones who truly understand what’s best for their students.
What Now before What’s next.
There is always a concern in the education community on adverse effects that technology is bringing upon the new generations. It’s believed that with easy access to technology, people are becoming lazy and losing their creative intelligence.
Though the above concern might be valid to a certain extent, it is inevitable that technology will keep on advancing, taking up our jobs, our culture, our future.
We as teachers/leaders of today are responsible for the fate of future generations; it’s in our hands to maneuver the technology in the right direction today so that we can have a better future, tomorrow.
It’s need of the hour to create a system that is focused on learning and acknowledge the needs and wants of both student and teacher.
A system that can enable a more dynamic interaction between a student and teacher by amplifying communication and participation creating more customized experiences for the students. Access of content outside the classroom for assignment or any other reference because learning shouldn’t be limited to the classroom.
Also, discussions and group projects are required for a challenging and interactive learning environment, and this can be achieved face to face or through virtual interaction as well.
Technology has equipped us to make the best of both worlds, traditional learning as well as virtual learning. However, this needs to be given the right direction to create the optimum learning ladder.
